D'Entrecasteaux Channel, Sth Tasmania -
Two Bud Spur is a very distinctive Tasmanian pinot noir but it is also typical of the textured style that the D'Entrecasteaux Channel area in southern Tasmania produces - D'Meure, Yellow Point and Resolution Vineyard pinots all display these trademark voluminous characteristics.
Rather than being a juicy/vibrant or firmly structured style of pinot, Two Bud Spur is, like its neighbours, sumptuously silky and fleshy. Medium depth of colour, not completely translucent (suggesting minimum filtering), with garnet rather than purple tinges. Cherries and plums
on the nose, with a little quince, but it is in the mouth that this
wine really impresses. It's everywhere.. wrapping up the palate with its
silky, soft tannins. A beautiful wine for salmon or all roast birds.
Neil Snare of Winstead makes the wine.
Two
Bud Spur's vines were planted in 1996 on a north-facing site in
Gardners Bay. Due to the extreme southerly location, Two Bud Spur is one
of the last vineyards to harvest in Tasmania.
There is never
enough of this pinot to last the year - we have it for a few months,
then it's gone until the next vintage arrives.
