Lowburn, Central Otago, New Zealand –
Aurum vineyard is in a wonderful garden setting on the fluvial, glacial terraces below the Pisa Range at Lowburn. These vines were planted in 1997 and 1998. Owners Joan and Tony Lawrence also have another vineyard at Cromwell, planted in 2001. Originally the Lawrences were contract growers but since 2002 they’ve produced Aurum Wines, now made by French winemaker daughter-in-law Lucie Lawrence.

2008 Aurum Pinot has a lot of grace and elegance for Central Otago. Floral aromas on the nose with red currant and spicy chutney. The palate shows food friendly savouriness, but with ripe fruit, as well as the trademark Lowburn texture and resilient acid. There’s weight without jamminess.

Pinot Shop is located in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia at 135 Paterson Street down at the river end near Cataract Gorge, Stillwater Restaurant and The Mill Providore. We specialise in the best of premium pinot noir as grown so beautifully in the cool climes of Tasmania, New Zealand and southern parts of the big Australian continent. Our love for pinot extends to its sibling styles pinot gris and grigio and fizzy cousins sparkling wine and Champagne, even when they don’t contain pinot noir. That’s not to say we’ve become too exclusive - we also stock an interesting range of delicious wines for those (rare) times when you’re not drinking pinot…
