Rokeby, S E Tasmania –
A richly fruity pinot from Clarence House’s young vines. Clarence House was built in 1830 on land at Rokeby, on Hobart's eastern shore, which and was the site of the original market garden for Hobart. Current owner David Kilpatrick planted vines on the NE slopes of Clarence Plains in 1998.
Previous vintages have been top-sellers and for good reason, Clarence Plains is one of the best value pinots in the country. The colour is richly ruby/purple/magenta and it has an great perfume of lightly stewed Damson plums among the mix of blueberries, blackberries and strawberries.
Clarence Plains Pinot starts life with a touch of firmness - there is good pinot structure here - but after 6-12 months in bottle shows its rich, plummy, silky pinot traits.
