Sancerre, France -
Among many lively and fascinating wines at Dyson & McShane’s Loire Valley tasting of pinot and pinot blends, Daniel Chotard’s premium red Sancerre ‘Cuvee Champ de l’Archer’ was a favourite.
It’s immediate appeal lay in aromas of almond and violet and the persistence in the mouth. Several hours later it continued to impress with its evolving expression of pure pinot. Peppery aromas became apparent, red currants and morello cherries defined the supple palate.
Daniel Chotard, part of a winemaking tradition of two centuries, describes his pinots as ‘authentic and bold’ and suggests a wonderful food match of ‘cottage pie made with beef cheek’.
The wine is made from 100% pinot noir and is barrel aged for 18 months.
