Ranelagh Huon Valley Tasmania -
The rise and rise of Home Hill Pinot Noir has been impressive to watch. Assiduous attention to cropping levels and skilled winemaking to match have created wines that are as close to the much admired Central Otago style as Tasmania can manage.
Since the remarkable 2005 Home Hill Pinot Noir,
which won the Tri Nations Trophy (knocking the Kiwis off their perch for
the first time), Home Hill in Tasmania's Huon Valley has produced a
stand-out pinot in each vintage.
Home Hill Pinots are full-bodied wines, chock full of intense dark fruits. New vintage 2010 has a bit more verve and energy overlaying the fruit richness. Floral notes are evident on the nose and the fruit has some pleasing, juicy briary qualities. The are dark fruits aplenty but there's a bit more zip with food-friendly firm but fine tannins.
The texture is excellent, a notable feature of these very southern grown pinots.
There is no doubt that this wine will achieve similar glories to previous vintages, having already picked up two major GOLD MEDALS -
