Granton Tasmania -
Stefano Lubiana pinots are sheer class. Superb perfume, pure dark fruits and impeccable balance. Granton is north of the Bridgewater Bridge just out of Hobart's northern suburbs.
Stefano Lubiana 2009 Pinot has just arrived, and is an impressive follow on from the 2008
Florals and musk with spice and ripe red cherry on the nose - it smells so elegant and refined, but then you get it in your mouth and soon realise that this is a pinot with GRUNT. Even at this youthful stage it packs a big flavour punch but still has very styish pinot traits.
Biodynamic viticulture, mature vines, 'hands off' winemaking and wild yeast have given wonderful structure and texture with delicious chewy fleshiness underpinned by fine tannins.
It's a very stable wine (and outstanding cellaring proposition), as evidenced by the fact that our tasting bottle (Wine Preserva in situ) was still going strong on the Friday after opening Monday.
Absolutely not to be missed.
