Martinborough, New Zealand
Te Hera Pinots were among the most impressive tasted at Pinot Noir NZ 2010. They had some pretty stiff competition from the 100 featured wineries but the tremendous focus of Te Hera’s wines demanded attention.
Winemaker/owner John Douglas was one of the first to establish a commercial vineyard on the now acclaimed Te Muna Road.
Te Hera Pinots are in the dark fruit mode – blackberry and plum in this vintage. Typical Martinborough syrupy texture, more violet than spice. Oak perfectly integrated with the rich, ripe fruit. Hard to resist once you have opened the bottled so entrancing are the aromas and delicious flavours.
Vintage 2007 was low-yielding and produced concentrated, ripely fruited wines.
Be assured though that 2008 to come is also a completely class act.
