Central Otago Pinot Sample 6 Pack
Winery : Various
New Zealand's Central Otago is the glamour region of the pinot world. Those who love the full, rich and concentrated flavours for which this area is famed will not look anywhere else. Cromwell, Bannockburn and Alexandra sub-regions are covered here.
2015/6 Grasshopper Rock Pinot Noir: From Alexandra, the southern-most of the Central sub-regions. Newly released 2014 is among the best of the Grasshopper Rock releases, it sweeps you away with the brilliance of the purple-hued colour, the aromas of blackcurrant jelly and the ripe/juicy/bouncy fruit in the mouth. A mouth-filling and mouth-watering pinot.
2016 Mount Edward Pinot Noir: Vineyard notes - 'Silky and lush texture fruit power yet finely balanced with fine tannins throughout and long in flavour. An elegant vintage for us and for people who prefer the classics over the blockbuster, that said we had enough warm days to give a definitely a more plush and softness than the preceding few years.'
2017 Two Degrees Pinot Noir: Typically, of the pinots from Wanaka and Clutha, the bouquet is immediately appealing with, sweetly perfumed fruit in the ripe dark raspberry and cherry spectrum. Two Degrees Pinot shows excellent clarity of fruit and is always divinely silky in the mouth. Sarah-Kate Dineen of Maude makes the wine.
2015 Rua by Akarua Pinot Noir: GOLD MEDAL, 95 POINTS at the 2016 Decanter World Wine Awards. 'A bouquet loaded with ripe, fresh red berry fruit aromas - raspberry, cherry, plum; mild oak and dry stone material add depth. On the palate - lots of energy, lots of fruit, lots of pinosity; flavours reflect the bouquet with red berry fruits and red apple skin, mild oak, fine to moderate tannins and plenty of acidity. Balanced, fresh, oozing personality with a fairly lengthy finish.' MS Cameron Douglas
2016 Chard Farm Mata Au Pinot Noir: Chard Farm, although based in a most spectacular Gibbston location, uses estate-grown Lowburn/Parkburn fruit from the Cromwell Basin for Mata-Au Pinot. This area produces elegant, softly structured pinot in contrast to the concentration and firm backbone of Gibbston. This is a finely-stated Central Otago pinot - medium-weight, spicy, textured, savoury.
2016 Valli Bannockburn Pinot Noir: Grant Taylor's harmonious and richly fruited pinot from the 'dress circle' of Central Otago. Ageworthy.
