Chard Farm 2016 Mata Au Pinot Noir
Winery : Chard Farm
Chard Farm, although based in a most spectacular Gibbston location, uses estate-grown Lowburn/Parkburn fruit from the Cromwell Basin for Mata-Au Pinot. This area, with its alluvial schists, produces elegant, softly structured pinot in contrast to the concentration and firm backbone of Gibbston.
This is a finely-stated Central Otago pinot - medium-weight, spicy, textured, savoury and a teensy bit funky, but with the sweet fruit prevailing. Superb pinot for small birds or Chinese dishes.
Mata Au is the Maori name for the Clutha River. Running from Lake Wanaka to the Southern Alps, it is New Zealand's second longest.
