Dry River 2017 Pinot Noir
Winery : Dry River
An icon of Martinborough and New Zealand pinot, Dry River produces exceptional wines. Former winemaker and owner Neil McCallum was a pioneer, having planted the vineyard in 1979. The current team includes winemaker Wilco Lam and vineyard manager James Pittard. After 42 years, the winemaking and viticultural practices are completely in tune with the location, and the Pinot Noirs are an outstanding statement of the virtues of old vines and experience.
Michele's notes: What a joy it is to be holding a glass of Dry River Pinot Noir. You take a deep sniff and begin to lose yourself in the complex aromas that are so typically Dry River - floral notes of roses and red carnations, gentle fruit cake spices, bramble berries, chocolate and more. All so very beguiling.
In the mouth it is lithe and quite juicy - the good acid ensuring its longevity. Orange rind, morello cherries, cocoa/char from the oak - all very subtle though - layers and layers of flavour. Beautifully balanced. One of my favourite Dry River Pinots.
