Dry River Pinot Noirs
Winery : Dry River
An icon of Martinborough and New Zealand pinot, Dry River produces exceptional wines. Not so enigmatic these days... and now more accessible in their youth, these wonderful wines show how the winemaking and viticulture is, after 38 years, completely at home in its location.
Former winemaker and owner Neil McCallum was a pioneer, having planted the vineyard in 1979. Ata Rangi, Martinborough & Te Kairanga developed their vineyards about the same time. The current team consists of winemaker Wilco Lam, viticulturist Robert Wills and long term employee Heather Gibbs in administration.
2016 Dry River Pinot Noir: NEW RELEASE - Bob Campbell 96 points. Winemaker notes: 'Red currant, strawberries and plum... Christmas spices, rosehip and floral notes...oak accentuates the underlying tobacco and caramel..Youthful intensity and clarity. Restrained power.
2015 Dry River Pinot Noir: DARK & LUSCIOUS - Raymond Chan 19.5/20 '...lusciously vibrant flavours of dark-red and black berried fruits intermixed with notes of plums and dark herbs... depth, energy and tension...fine-grained finish.'
