Dawson & James 2017 Pinot Noir
Winery : Dawson & James
Peter Dawson and Tim James are friends and winemakers who worked together at Hardy's for 20 years from the late 1970s. Since then they have moved on to other companies and ventures, among them Dawson & James Wines. Peter Dawson: 'We've always had high expectations and standards in terms of our appreciation of wine, and now we've pushed ourselves to make two wines that hold their own with the best in the world. We took the highest quality grapes from a vineyard in Glenora, Tasmania, and with minimal tweaking, have let the grapes do the work.'
Vintage 2017 was small in volume but very high in quality. This is an excellent release from Dawson & James.
Michele's notes: Rich ruby in colour with beautiful clarity. Bold and clear aromas of mulberry, wet stone, dark chocolate and a hint of marzipan/bakery – think cherry pie. Luscious in the mouth with a framework of exceptionally fine tannins and lingering flavours of berry fruits plus toasty/vanilla elements from the oak. Will be a beauty with a couple more years cellaring. Enjoy now with a vigorous decant and the classic Bistecca alla Fiorentina.
