Apsley Gorge 2016 Pinot Noir
Winery : Apsley Gorge
Tasmania's Apsley Gorge is a world apart. The location is unique, the vineyard snuggled as it is under the Douglas Apsley National Park at the northern end of the East Coast. It is a cool location, extending the ripening season and making it among the last to pick in the state. Brian Franklin has honed his experience in both hemispheres - he produces wine in both France and Tasmania.
Michele's notes: What fruit! There's jubey blackcurrant and dried cranberries, complemented by toasty coconut from the oak. Then star anise and meatiness - think steak tartare. Richly textured in the mouth with the classic Apsley G licorice/salty tang, matched by the sweet, bold fruit. Superbly fine and pleasingly dry tannins provide a cleansing finish. Masterful wine.
