Marco Lubiana 2021 Huon Derwent Pinot Noir
Winery : Marco Lubiana
This is Marco Lubiana's second Pinot Noir under his own label. The 2020 release was entirely from the Lucille Vineyard in the Huon Valley (planted in 1973 by Steve Ferencz), the 2021 iteration is a blend of fruit from that vineyard as well as the Lubiana 'home' vineyard at Granton. Biodynamic viticulture, no fining nor filtration.
Michele's notes: Enticing aromas fill the air as you pour a glass through an aerator. Intense dark cherries, chocolate, cinnamon and a touch of musk stick to the fore, then more savoury notes of wet stone/petrichor drift in. It is a very complex bouquet, revealing more with each sniff.
There is plenty of depth of fruit on the palate without being overly rich; instead, the wine shows a fine balance between dark fruits, acid and slightly astringent tannins. The flavours linger deliciously. It is the perfect dinner wine with enough natural pinot elegance to match with small birds, and also fine but firm structure for slow cooked beef or lamb dishes.
