Sailor Seeks Horse 2017 Pinot Noir
Winery : Sailor Seeks Horse
Sailor Seeks Horse, one of Tasmania's cult-status pinot labels, is the creation of winemakers Paul and Gilli Lipscombe who also make the wines for Home Hill Vineyard. Paul and Gilli arrived in Tasmania after studying winemaking/viticulture in Margaret River and with experience in Oregon and New Zealand.
They settled in the Huon and set about reviving a derelict vineyard at Cradoc, which had been planted in 2005 and subsequently abandoned. Their first release Sailor Seeks Horse Pinot was an instant success and subsequent vintages have sold out quickly.
Michele's notes: Pinot-esque is how I describe the Sailor Seeks Horse style and this is no exception. Garnet in colour with a gorgeous perfume - candied violet, sweet red cherry, wet stone and a hint of orange rind. The palate is vibrant, the flavours tingle and persist, bouncing around the mouth with a clean, slightly chalky fine-tannin finish. There's a subtle aftertaste that builds and builds, but not in a cloying way, indeed the finish is exemplarily refreshing. Classy, refined and elegant.
