Pooley 2019 Single Vineyard Pinots
Winery : Pooley Wines
Pooley is a well-established Coal River Valley (Tasmania) producer. The estate is a second and third generation family-run affair - father John tends the business, son Matt tends the vines, daughter Anna and her husband Justin Bubb tend the wines.
2019 Pooley Cooinda Vale Pinot Noir: Cooinda Vale is the name of the original vineyard site, established in 1985 on the banks of the Coal River, about six kilometres north of the town of Campania.
Michele's notes: Latent power here, with trademark Cooinda Vale finesse. Pretty red cherry fruits and sweet licorice on the nose with an intriguing overlay of iodine/ozone. Upfront and vibrant fruit, more briary in the mouth, with an incredibly fine-boned structure. Lingering flavours.
2019 Pooley Butcher's Hill Pinot Noir: This is Pooley's newer vineyard site, planted in 2003. It is close to the historic town of Richmond.
Michele's notes: As always, a touch more spice and flesh than the Cooinda Vale Pinot. Bright colour, medium density. Aromas of blueberry and raspberry, ferrous/stone elements. Soft and generous, the flavours build to richness. Beautiful mouth-feel even in this youthful state.
