Pooley is one of Tasmania's long-established producers, with vines originally planted by the late Margaret & Dennis Pooley at their Cooinda Vale property in the Coal River Valley in 1985. The Pooley estate now includes Butcher's Hill on the outskirts of Richmond. Anna Pooley and Justin Bubb make the wines.
2023 Pooley Butcher's Hill Pinot Noir: Winemaker notes: 'Perfumed notes of spiced cherry, cocoa and violets on the nose before developing into cranberries, pepper-berry and currants on the palate. These characters are underscored by impressions of truffle, spice and chocolate. Soft tannins make for a smooth finish, with firm acidity creating an everlasting length.'
2023 Pooley Pinot Noir (Coal River Valley blend): Fruit from Butchers Hill and Cooinda Vale vineyards plus selected growers in the region. A very characterful wine, this is an excellent iteration of Pooley's flagship Pinot. Michele's notes: Brooding, dark plum and briar fruits, chocolate, roasted meats. Very tasty, complex layers of fruit with savoury elements and graphite-like tannins.
