Chard Farm, although based in a most spectacular Gibbston location, uses estate-grown Lowburn/Parkburn fruit from the Cromwell Basin for Mata-Au Pinot. This area, with its alluvial schists, produces elegant, softly structured pinot in contrast to the concentration and firm backbone of Gibbston. 

Mata-Au is the Maori name for the Clutha River. Running from Lake Wanaka to the Southern Alps, it is New Zealand's second longest.

This is a finely-stated Central Otago pinot - medium-weight, spicy, textured, savoury and a teensy bit funky, but with the sweet fruit prevailing. Superb pinot for small birds or Chinese dishes.
