Apogee Tasmania Deluxe Vintage Sparkling
Winery : Apogee
From those small but well-researched beginnings (the foundation of a doctoral thesis) and the establishment of Pipers Brook Vineyard in the late '70s, through public floats, acquisitions, corporate takeovers and machinations, and finally consultancy to one of the largest players in the Tasmanian wine industry, Andrew Pirie is once again doing what he loves best - making his own wine from a small vineyard that he planted and tends himself at Lebrina in north-east Tasmania.
This time the focus is on sparkling wine, the jewel of ultra cool Lebrina region, and pinot gris.
As you would expect from the hands of the master, Apogee is a superb sparkling wine, tasting as rich and luxurious as its glamorous packaging. Cumquat, lemon curd, toasted nuts but also bright red fruits, and a very soft, creamy mouth-feel with ultra, ultra fine bubbles. It's essentially refreshing but rich. The composition is 44% chardonnay, 31% pinot noir, 25% pinot meunier.
Apogee is produced from a single site and is entitled to use the term 'Deluxe Method' to describe its production.
