Shiraz - SC Pannell 2018 Adelaide Hills Syrah

Steve Pannell is formerly the chief winemaker for Hardy's. Since establishing his own winery he has focused on securing parcels of old-vine shiraz and grenache from low yielding, dry grown fruit sources for his eponymous label. Previous vintage 2013 SC Pannell shiraz was the second Jimmy Watson Trophy win for Pannell who won the award in 1996 (as the then winemaker) for the Eileen Hardy Shiraz 1995.

Summing up his intent to create a refined, aromatic style of shiraz, Pannell comments: 'I just don’t see the point in letting the fruit get so ripe and alcoholic that the wine ends up being a study in corrected acidity, sweet oak and added tannin. I am looking more for fruit that is still ‘alive’, with natural balance and good tannins.'
