Julian Alcorso’s career in the Tasmanian wine industry has spanned 40 years, beginning with Moorilla Estate and culminating in Wine Tasmania, a major contract winemaking business.
Knowing that retirement was nigh, Alcorso embarked on his last project—the creation of the best Riesling and Pinot Noir that he and Tasmania were capable. No expense, nor effort spared, no compromise... The project started in 2011 and continued through to vintage 2015.
Alcorso Pinot Noir is a multi-regional blend, with a dominance of Coal V fruit. Lovely clarity in the glass, deep crimson with garnet. Amplified blueberry, blackcurrant jelly and spice on the nose; juicy and muscular in the mouth, with jubey characters moving into a flowing silky/glycerol finish. Big, big flavours here. At the last, savoury oak adds a pleasing note of dryness to the fine tannins.
