Apsley Gorge Pinot Noir MAGNUMS
Winery : Apsley Gorge
One of Tasmania's most characterful Pinot Noirs available in MAGNUM. Under screwcap, very limited.
Apsley Gorge is at the northern end of Tasmania's East Coast, tucked under the Douglas Apsley National Park.
Vintage 2017 Pinot Noir - Michele's notes: This is a great Apsley, one for the diehard fans of this complex and characterful pinot noir. There's a lot going on at the funky end of the pinot spectrum - animal, mineral and florals. The more the wine breathes, the more the fruit and the violet florals get to sing. A relatively low-yielding vintage has resulted in plenty of concentration with trademark lusciousness in the mouth. There's licorice and that wonderful salty tang, with plum, cola and cocoa, roundly-textured slightly chalky tannins, and more, each time you take a sip.
Vintage 2018 Pinot Noir - Michele's notes: Earth, meat, tobacco, wet stone, blood… loads of secondary characteristics mingle with the dark fruits, notably luscious black plum and briar fruits. After breathing the fruit aromas have greater focus and clarity. In the mouth it is all about luscious flow with dark chocolate and liquorice mingling with the bold fruit and earthiness. It is a very tasty wine indeed and the flavours keep on and on, in that typically Apsley Gorge way.
