AUSTRIA - Pittnauer 2012 Dorflagen Pinot Noir

$32.00 - $192.00

Austria is well suited to growing pinot noir, the continental climate that works so well with riesling also suits pinot noir - think Tasmania's Coal Valley or NZ's Central Otago. Pittnauer's home is Bergenland on the eastern border of Austria. It sits on the edge of Central Europe’s vast Pannonian plain - the climate of day/night temperature extremes is well-suited to pinot noir.

Pittnauer's Dorflagen Pinot is deep ruby in colour. Cherry/berry fruit aromas are overlaid with jasmine tea and florals - but it's not just a pretty wine, there's minerality too. Sprightly acid and juicy fruit with savoury and cleansing tannins that round out deliciously on the finish. It is a brilliant dinner wine for something unctuous like slow cooked beef cheeks or osso

Pittnauer uses biodymanic preparations.

Pinot Shop is located in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia at 135 Paterson Street down at the river end near Cataract Gorge, Stillwater Restaurant and The Mill Providore. We specialise in the best of premium pinot noir as grown so beautifully in the cool climes of Tasmania, New Zealand and southern parts of the big Australian continent. Our love for pinot extends to its sibling styles pinot gris and grigio and fizzy cousins sparkling wine and Champagne, even when they don’t contain pinot noir. That’s not to say we’ve become too exclusive - we also stock an interesting range of delicious wines for those (rare) times when you’re not drinking pinot…
