Bass Phillip 2014 Pinot Noirs

$64.00 - $205.00

Bass Phillip Pinots are transcendental. They are more than just liquid in the glass, they have emotion, mystery, a personality, and they are completely of one place and one vintage.  Phillip Jones' notes on the 2014 vintage and wines: '2014 will be considered one of our best: certainly the team at Bass Phillip is excited about all the wines - rich in dark, layered fruits, supple and textured, and with more than the usual amount of tannin.'

Vintage 2014 was a low-yielding year.

  • 2014 Bass Phillip Crown Prince Noir: Vineyard notes: 'Leongatha vineyard;  9,000 vines/HA (1996);  this wine comes from the major part of the vineyard, cropping at approx. 1.0 to 1.2 tonne/acre. Winemaker, Phillip Jones 'This is the best Crown Prince we have made, with an emphasis on wild berry fruits, great texture, lingering flavours and dry tannins. Easy to drink now but will improve over six years in the cellar.'
  • 2014 Bass Phillip Estate Pinot Noir: Vineyard notes:Source - original Estate vineyard;  8,500 vines/HA;  specific plot cropping at approx. one tonne/acre, often blended with the best fruit from our Leongatha Vineyard.  Mike Bennie Winefront 95 points 'Spice, red fruits, beetroot, rose petals, touch of animale, pepper in the fragrant bouquet. Wafts from the glass. Strong scents. Sloshes in palate well but also finds grip and thrust; ripe fruited, tight, power of flavour and great density of fruit, yet an almost ethereal float across the palate too. It does it all. A wine that sits in the the mouth and levitates then asks you back to the glass. What a wine!'
  • 2014 Bass Phillip Premium Pinot Noir: Huon Hooke 96 points 'Medium to deep red/purple colour, darker than the Estate. A darker fruit spectrum as well; deep, and more tannic, well-structured and rich, with real gravitas and tremendous length.'    Mike Bennie Winefront 96 points 'Tight perfume of red cherry, red berry, spice, earth. Just juicy in the palate with fine, slender coils of tannin that twist then tighten through finish. Incredible structure and power, yet freshness and vibrancy. A wine to suck on and chew, then admire the cadence of fruit. Beautiful.'
