Bellebonne Vintage Sparkling Wines
Winery : Natalie Fryar
The 'Queen of Bubbles', ex Jansz winemaker Natalie Fryar, has been working on her own projects for the last couple of years, as well as consulting to a number of vineyards including Kreglinger Sparkling House. This is her third release of the Vintage Rose and second of the Vintage Cuvee.
Bellebonne 2016 Vintage Cuvee: 60% chardonnay, 40% pinot noir from a single vineyard in the Pipers River region of NE Tasmania. Ultra fine bead and soft mousse, and it keeps bubbling away very persistently in the glass. Almond and anise on the nose with sweet lemon. There's some grunt in the mouth, with tangy/dry grapefruit pith. Layered, the richness builds, but the finish is clean and refreshing.
Bellebonne 2017 Vintage Rose: 100% pinot noir from a single vineyard in the Pipers River region of NE Tasmania. Exquisite 'baby pink', achieved by liqueuring with a special (secret) red wine mix. The mousse is like flummery, and the nose is redolent with rose petals and wild strawberries. Despite the delicacy of the colour, the fruit is quite robust - red currants and cherries - a reflection of the low-yielding vintage. Excellent body with enlivening acid at the end. All class.
