Jim Chatto came to Tasmania in 1998, freshly recruited to be the winemaker at the then Rosevears Estate (since incorporated into Tamar Ridge Wines). Chatto's career moved on a steep trajectory, culminating in his appointment as Chief Winemaker for McWilliam's Wines Group. Meanwhile, Jim and wife Daisy were also busy establishing their own vineyard at Cygnet in the Huon Valley. This release features Pinot Noirs from Chatto's group of Growers around the state.
2020 Chatto Lutruwita Pinot Noir: Formerly known as the 'Tasmania' blend. Winemaker notes - 'A blend of four vineyard sites in north and east of Tasmania - Marion's, Glengarry, Bird and Maclean Bay. A perfumed mix of red and black berry fruits, violets and lifted five spice .. long and multi-layered finish.'
2020 Chatto Marion's Pinot Noir: Planted in 1979, Marion's occupies one of the most spectacular vineyard sites on the sunny banks of the west Tamar. Winemaker notes - 'Dark-berry fruited, brooding and muscular style, reflecting the nature of this wonderful site, and the structure West Tamar pinot is known for. A serious wine for the cellar.'
2020 Chatto Bird Pinot Noir: Bird Vineyard was planted in the very early 2000s to the best pinot clones available by Pipers Brook Vineyard a few kilometres south of the main PBV site. With the vines now 20 years old, this is a source of high quality fruit. Winemaker notes - 'The most elegant of our 'Grower' wines, Bird displays bright and crunchy red fruits, laced with super aromatic spice. Ethereal and racy with a long, sapid finish. A lot of intensity packed into a lighter bodied frame.'
2020 Chatto Glengarry Pinot Noir: Winemaker notes: 'Twenty years between drinks! Planted in 1991, Glengarry is more inland and at a higher elevation than the majority of Tamar vineyards. It is therefore a later ripening site, providing real purity and focus to the red and black fruits. This was where the inaugural Chatto Pinot was made back in 2009, just after Jim arrived.'
