Chatto 2021 Pinot Noirs

Jim Chatto came to Tasmania in 1998, freshly recruited to be the winemaker at the then Rosevears Estate (since incorporated into Tamar Ridge Wines). Chatto's career moved on a steep trajectory, culminating in his appointment as Chief Winemaker for McWilliam's Wines Group. Meanwhile, Jim and wife Daisy have established their own vineyard at Cygnet in the Huon Valley.  They also source fruit from premium growers around the state.

2021 Chatto Intrigue Pinot Noir:  ONLY AVAILABLE IN THE MIXED SIX. This wine is made from all eight clones off Chatto's home estate, the Isle Vineyard in the Huon Valley. Finesse with power is the Chatto stamp. The aromas lift with breathing to show florals and a meld of small berry fruits. Energy and vivacity in the mouth - it is juicy, fine-boned and seamless.

2021 Chatto Lutruwita Pinot Noir: This is a blend of different sites in Tasmania - north, south and east. Michele's notes: Deep colour, with generous nose of dark red cherry, ferrous/blood/stone elements and cola. The earthy/briary characters come through on the palate, complemented by vanilla from the oak and chalky tannins to finish.

2021 Chatto Bird Pinot Noir: Pipers River. This vineyard was planted in the very early 2000s by Pipers Brook Vineyard a few kilometres south of the main PBV site. With the vines now more than 20 years old, this is a source of high-quality fruit. Michele's notes: A terrific release from this vineyard. Medium depth with a lively bouquet - raspberries, woody herbs, roasted szechuan pepper. In the mouth it is deliciously juicy, laden with sweet, fresh fruit and finishing with a savoury note. A mouthful of joy!
