East Coast Double Act Pinot DOZ
Winery : Various
Two ripper pinots from Tasmania's East Coast - the sunshine strip.
6 x 2016 Priory Ridge Pinot Noir: This family-owned 20ha vineyard is not far from St Helens and Binnalong Bay, at the northern end of Tasmania's sunshine strip. Brian Franklin of Apsley Gorge fame makes the wine.
Michele's notes: Deep colour and rich flavours of licorice and dark fruits - blackberries and cherries - complemented by more savoury woody herbs and char from the oak. Especially silky texture which adds to the appeal.
6 x 2016 Kelvedon Estate Pinot Noir: Established in 1998 with the first vintage in 2002. The focus has been predominantly on pinot noir, with a succession of excellent vintages.
Michele's notes: Beautiful clarity of colour with a dreamy perfume. This has become a hallmark of Kelvedon Pinots. Here bath powder (dusky rose), cherries and fragrant cardamom spice. Deliciously lithe and lively in the mouth, and precise fruit set off by imperceptible oak. With a second sip, the flavours peel away, one by one. Nothing forced, all natural class and poise.
