First Drop Wines

$27.00 - $348.00

First Drop Wines is one of the most exciting and impressive ranges of wine we have seen in years. the names and labels are witty and very decorative, and the contents are simply superb. And that's not just one or two wines in the range - they're all brilliant.

'The fact that their wines are so bloody good sets this venture apart: there are quite a few new-wave wine ventures out there now with eye-catching designs, punchy names and marketing campaigns, aimed at the You-Tube generation, but none of them are quite as adventurous with what's inside the bottle as what's on the outside.' MAX ALLEN, The Future Makers, Hardie Grant Books 2011.

Our mixed pack features six of our favourites from the range, at a sensational price - $348 (value $388)

  • Pintor Tempranillo (Barossa) - one of the big hits of our First Drop tasting a couple of months ago. Glorious raspberry scented fruit and the palate is so juicy. Extremely more-ish.
  • Mother's Milk Shiraz (Barossa) - aptly named indeed. This slips down oh so easily. The fruit is not overblown though, more berry and pepper focus. Juicy blackberries. Fills the mouth deliciously.
  • Mother's Ruin Cabernet (McLaren Vale) - also aptly named, and labelled. This is seriously addictive stuff - leather and licorice, blackcurrant and chocolate. Supple, elegant and very smooth with perfect acid. Roast lamb here we come.
  • The Big Blind Nebbiolo Barbera (Adelaide Hills) - garnet in colour, typical of these northern Italian varietals. Sweet fruit on the nose, red currant and florals. Very sweet soft fruit on the palate and the flavours really linger. There seems to be something new with each sip - this wine definitely delivers way more than you expect. Super.
  • 2% Shiraz (Barossa) - the 2% refers to two-percent tempranillo which serves to ramp up the intense fruit aromas. This is a big, black, voluptuous, rich and generous wine. It is extremely delicious, quite fantastic in fact and hard to put down. To add to the appeal the bottle comes encased in a fine net wrap, a nod to Spain. To quote the First Drop dudes: 'The reserve booze. Puts the ph in phunk.'
  • JR Gantos Cabernet Touriga Nacional (McLaren Vale) - seriously well-structured, the legacy of touriga nacional and finest quality McLaren Vale cab. Spicy, chocolaty, smoky, darkly fruity. Brilliant a day after opening.

  • Under the Gun Adelaide Hills Barbera
  • The Matador Barossa Garnacha
  • Nacional Barossa Touriga Nacional
