FRANCE - Les Courtilles Cotes du Rhone
Winery : Les Courtilles
Les Courtilles (meaning 'a series of small courtyards') is named after the village winery founded by Bernard Schurr in 1977. Small batch winemaking allows Les Courtilles to create generously flavoured wines of individual character from the traditional grapes of southern Rhone.
Sourced from 35yo vines on the right bank of the Rhone between Orange and Avignon. The blend of 48% grenache, 44% syrah and 8% mourvedre was hand harvested and de-stemmed (creating a rich-berry style) and has had minimal oak influence.
There's spicy cinnamon, raspberry and violets. Easy-on-the-palate fine tannins, lots of sweet, soft fruit but also a typical European savoury edge to finish. Outstanding quaffer.
