Applejack Vineyard was planted in the Upper Yarra in 2001 by Ray Guerin, viticulturist par excellence. The vineyard, which was purchased by Phil Sexton of Giant Steps, is located on a dramatic north-east facing slope.
Huon Hooke 95points, 5 stars: 'Medium red/purple bright colour, with a definite root vegetable stemmy bouquet. The palate echoes this, with parsnip, turnip-like characteristics, which are very attractive and starting to morph into lifted perfumes. The palate is elegant and fine, intense and focused, with light, soft tannins in abundance. Very long palate. There's a lot of whole-bunch here, but so much else as well. A very stylish pinot'
