D'Entrecasteaux Channel is the picturesque waterway between Bruny Island and the Tasmanian mainland, extending around to the estuary of the Huon River, south of Hobart. These are fleshy pinots, with volume and silkiness even in their youth. Flavours are full but balanced, a result of the long, long ripening season in this very southerly part of the world. In nearby Ranelagh/Huon, the high latitude and micro-climate create pinot noirs of full-flavoured depth, while in Cradoc/Cygnet area, refinement and poise rule the style.

2017 Sailor Seeks Horse Pinot Noir - Paul & Gilli Lipscombe's flowing Pinot Noir is already a 'cult' wine after only a few vintages. Beautiful perfume, medium-weight, precise Pinot with excellent texture.

2018 Utzinger Pinot Noir - This fresh and vivacious Pinot is made from fruit off the original Panorama vineyard (established in the '70s), now owned by Stefano Lubiana. Whole bunch and carbonic maceration techniques give a lovely lift to the cherry fruit and contribute to the dry, savoury finish. Textural appeal.

2018 Resolution Pinot Noir - One of our D'Entrecasteaux favourites - it is simply a lot of luscious pinot noir for few dollars. The aromas jump out of the glass! Blackcurrant fruit pastilles, wet slate, whiff of cinnamon and more. On the palate there are juicy mulberries, hint of charcuterie, gentle yet firm tannins and silky flow. Licorice tang at the last.

2017 Elsewhere Pinot Noir - Eastern bank of the Huon R. Pioneer in the region, having established in the 1980s by Eric & Jette Phillips. Current owners, the Knights, have rehabilitated the vineyard for the production of premium wine, pinot noir in particular. Aromatic with cranberry & orange peel; sweet, juicy red berry fruits finishing clean in the mouth.
