Hurley Vineyard 2014 Pinot Noirs

$62.00 - $379.00

Kevin Bell and Tricia Byrnes of Mornington's Hurley Vineyard make pinot noir with great integrity and the utmost attention to detail to celebrate the unique qualities of their Mornington site. In vintage 2014, Hurley Vineyard celebrated its 14th vintage with the release of all the 'climats' - Hommage, Garamond and Lodestone. Vineyard notes: 'We consider these are wines of great precision, purity and balance.  They are quite exceptional.'

This was a high quality but low-yielding vintage (only 60% of usual crop levels) so these exquisite Mornington Pinots are in short supply.

Kevin Bell's wine notes:

Hurley Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014 ‘Lodestone’ $62: 'Aromas of red cherries and currents give way to red minerals, mortadella and baked fennel, with a hint of human sweat... A spine of vibrant acidity sets off pure fruit flavours of cherries and raspberries, both sweet and sour, balanced by silky fruit tannins... ending long, clean and fresh.  A study in purity, line and precision, this Lodestone that was harvested spot on in (for us) a good vintage.  Alc/vol 13.4%.  To 2024 and beyond.  200 cases made.'

Hurley Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014 ‘Hommage’ $62: 'The nose is a blend of plums, liquor cherry, vanilla, cinnamon, dried herbs and lavender.  Fuller than Lodestone, the palate is luscious, mouthfilling and lingering.  Here we find dark plums with a lick of creaminess...nuanced by savouriness...This is a pure, generous and expressive Hommage which has benefitted from the moderate conditions.  Alc/vol 13.6%.   To 2026 and beyond.   200 cases made.'

Hurley Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014 ‘Garamond’ $75: 'Complex nose, with the aroma of sweetmeats, liquor cherries, cake spice, forest floor and pot pourri.  Somewhat more masculine than previous Garamonds, this smells more of the vineyard than the boudoir ... a taut and precise wine with a compelling narrative but not ornamental.... intense flavours of red fruits (especially cherries) and meatiness, but with added concentration, silky lingering tannins and a flaring finish.   A firm fist in a velvet glove from maturing vines.  Alc/vol 13.5%.  To 2028 and beyond.  200 cases made.'
