La Crema Wines

$74.00 - $85.00

La Crema has been established for more than 30 years. Their vineyard sites encompass the top pinot-growing areas of California and Oregon. Canadian Elizabeth Grant-Douglas is the winemaker (she was in the first graduating class at Brock University’s Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture program), and Associate Winemaker is Kiwi Craig McAllister.

Russian River is considered as one of the very best sub-regions in California for pinot growing. Large diurnal temperature ranges of 40C are not uncommon during the growing season. At La Crema's vineyard, cooling fogs blanket the vineyards during the evenings and mornings, but the temperature spikes during the sunny afternoons.

  • La Crema 2013 Russian River Pinot Noir:  A superb mirror of those site factors. Deep crimson in the glass; it's more brooding and slightly harder to read at first than the Willamette V Pinot. At first dark fruits, plum to the fore, then the florals rise, with them hints of tobacco. In the mouth its a bouncy, juicy, full-flavoured pinot - lots of briary fuit and a nicely tannic grip at the end.

The Willamette Valley (rhymes with damn it) is Oregon's largest region, with over 70% of Oregon's vineyards producing 88% of the pinot noir. It is a huge and varied appellation that includes six sub-regions: Chehalem Mountains, Dundee Hills, Eola-Amity Hills, McMinnville, Ribbon Ridge and Yamhill-Carlton.

    • La Crema 2014 Willamette Pinot Noir: Great vintage in the Willamette Valley. Persistent sweet fruit flavours. Pretty bright ruby in the glass; aromas of sweet cherry, coffee, slate and vanilla. It's a beguiling mix. Smooth and with full flavours, set in a fine framework. Lip-smacking, delicious.

Pinot Shop is located in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia at 135 Paterson Street down at the river end near Cataract Gorge, Stillwater Restaurant and The Mill Providore. We specialise in the best of premium pinot noir as grown so beautifully in the cool climes of Tasmania, New Zealand and southern parts of the big Australian continent. Our love for pinot extends to its sibling styles pinot gris and grigio and fizzy cousins sparkling wine and Champagne, even when they don’t contain pinot noir. That’s not to say we’ve become too exclusive - we also stock an interesting range of delicious wines for those (rare) times when you’re not drinking pinot…
