Littorai 2014 Pinot Noirs

$145.00 - $575.00
  • Mays Canyon Pinot Sold Out!

Ted and Heidi Lemon established Littorai in 1993. The wines are made from biodynamically managed vineyards in Sonoma and Medocino, California. These are very scarce, highly-regarded pinot noirs, rarely seen outside US, so we are very privileged to be able to offer them. Lemon also consults to Burn Cottage in Central Otago. For a an insight into Lemon's philosophy read his splendid address to the 2013 Mornington Pinot Celebration at this link The Concept of Noble Place in New World Winegrowing.

'Pinot Noir is a sacred task.' TED LEMON

  • Littorai Pinot Mixed QUARTET $575 (value $604) + FREE FREIGHT comprises 1each Savoy, Mays Canyon, Cerise and Haven Pinots
    • 2014 Littorai Savoy Pinot Noir: Anderson Valley, vineyard planted in 1990s, farmed using only organically certified materials, valley floor at the base of protective hills. 20% whole bunch clusters in the ferment. Ted Lemon says that whole bunch shouldn't be too influential and it isn't here, simply elevating the sweet red cherry and fresh herb notes. There's richer coffee too. Ripe fruit sweeps across the palate.
    • 2014 Littorai Cerise Pinot Noir: Anderson Valley, planted in 1997, farmed using only organically certified materials.Steep and rocky slope, low productivity, 20-25% whole bunch clusters. Garnet hued, orange rind on the nose, muscular tannins, satisfyingly chewy and with time, we know from experience, these will morph into textured silk.
    • 2014 Littorai Mays Canyon Pinot Noir: ONLY AVAILABLE in the QUARTET. Russian River, Porter Bass Vineyards is the source of this wine, the site was first planted to vines prior to the 1890s. Mays Canyon block was planted in 1999. Beautiful ruby crimson. Deep and rich aromas of red fruits and roasted meaty bones. Viscosity and chalky fine tannins. Long finish.
    • 2014 Littorai Haven Pinot Noir : Sonoma Coast. Ted Lemon: 'To be a vine at The Haven means struggling through sandstone, shale or gravels. Yield is tiny, but density and persistence is great as a result of the small berry size, particularly in 2014.'  All darkness - black cherry, char/smoke/earth/wet slate/minerals... Wait, wait, wait and then wait some more. The wine opened up magnificently after a little bit sat in my glass for more than an hour.

We specialise in the best of premium pinot noir as grown so beautifully in the cool climes of Tasmania, New Zealand and southern parts of the big Australian continent. Our love for pinot extends to its sibling styles pinot gris and grigio and fizzy cousins sparkling wine and Champagne, even when they don’t contain pinot noir. That’s not to say we’ve become too exclusive - we also stock an interesting range of delicious wines for those (rare) times when you’re not drinking pinot…
