Mewstone 2021 Pinot Noir
Winery : Mewstone Wines
2019 BEST NEW WINERY James Halliday Wine Companion
2018 BEST NEW ACT Young Guns of Wine: Jonny Hughes
Mewstone Wines is a venture between winemaker Jonny Hughes and his brother Matt. The vineyard comprises 3ha at Flowerpot in Tasmania's D'Entrecasteaux Channel. It is named after the island of Mewstone, a small, rugged outcrop off Tasmania's south coast, not far from the Maatsuyker group.
Michele's notes: Hues of deep ruby with magenta flashes. Bramble berries on the nose with fresh herbs, orange rind and resiny/smoky hints from the 30% whole bunch.
Viscous in the mouth with fine, chalky tannins creating texture. The sweet, soft fruit mingles deliciously with more savoury elements. This is a complex, seductive and elegant wine, giving more and more as it opens up in the glass. It will be an excellent accompaniment to braised beef dishes in particular. In its prime in four to five years, and will cellar for longer than that.
