Pooley 2019 Pinot Noirs
Winery : Pooley Wines
Pooley was established in 1985 by Margaret and Jack 'Denis' Pooley at Cooinda Vale in Tasmania's Coal R Valley. The estate is now run by the second and third generation Pooleys.
2019 Pooley Jack Denis Pooley Pinot Noir (value $150): ONLY AVAILABLE IN THE MIXED SIX - SOLD OUT! Just 850 bottles were made of this tribute to founder Jack 'Denis' Pooley. The fruit comes from selected parcels of the original Cooinda Vale vines plus some newer clonal material off the same site. Michele's notes: Exotic spice, smoky szechuan pepper, intense blueberry then richer, satsuma plum. Really silky in the mouth, the insinuating flavours build with each divine sip and are supported by an almost invisible web of fine tannins. All class.
2019 Pooley Cooinda Vale Pinot Noir: Cooinda Vale is the name of the original vineyard site, established in 1985 on the banks of the Coal River, about six kilometres north of the town of Campania. Michele's notes: Highly aromatic with Kentish cherries, spice, candied orange rind and marzipan. Ultra fine (typically Cooinda Vale), persistent, rich cherry fruit mingles with savoury elements and fine chalky tannins, complex.
2019 Pooley Butcher's Hill Pinot Noir: SOLD OUT! Butcher's Hill is Pooley's newer vineyard site, planted in 2003. It is close to the historic town of Richmond. Michele's notes: As always, a touch more spice and flesh than the Cooinda Vale Pinot. Spice, meat/blood/ferrous with sweet red cherries and chocolate. Full, soft but complex. Exemplary mouthfeel. Impressive from the first sip.
2019 Pooley Pinot Noir: Fruit from Butchers Hill and Cooinda Vale blocks plus selected growers in the region. Michele's notes: I always love the Coal River Valley blend with its generous flavours and harmonious flow across the palate, and this is a prime example. Nutty, baked biscotti with cherry and chocolate. Supple, juicy and very more-ish. Flavour packed.
