Shiraz - Glaetzer Dixon 2016 Mon Pere Shiraz
Winery : Glaetzer-Dixon
It was the biggest shock of the wine world - a Tasmanian Shiraz winning the 2011 Jimmy Watson Trophy. Nick Glaetzer triumphed with the very first vintage of his ode to 'Mon Pere' - Baron of Barossa Colin Glaetzer. Each subsequent vintage of the Glaetzer Dixon Mon Pere Shiraz has proved the feat to be no flash in the pan.
Michele's notes: Vintage 2016 is glorious. The deep ruby/magenta as the wine flows into the glass is a real scene-setter. The nose, aromatic with dark raspberry, slate and blood, draws you right in and then in the mouth, the fruit sings an operatic aria worthy of fellow Tasmanian Dame Nellie Melba. It is not one dimensional though; it is incredibly juicy and lip-smacking with outstandingly fine and dry/savoury tannins to clear the palate for the next sensational sip.
Made from 30 and 40 year old southern Tasmanian vines.
