Spring Vale, from Cranbrook on Tasmania's East Coast is one of Tasmania's best-known pinots. The Lyne family whose generations have farmed Spring Vale since 1875, diversified from sheep farming to grape growing in the 1980s.
With each new vintage release, Spring Vale settles confidently into an exotic, alluring style of pinot that makes its presence felt through insinuation and texture.
Medium weight with plenty of flavour but not density. Perfume and spice of the bazaar - sweet cherries, rose petals, cardamom - and these elements develop beautifully in a large glass. The fruit flavours persist in the mouth, at the finish there is a touch of licorice and finely gritty tannins. Lip-smacking.
