Tolpuddle 2015 Pinot Noir

$79.00 - $865.00

Tolpuddle Vineyard was founded in 1988 by Bill Casimaty, Gary Crittenden and Tony Jordan. Owners since 2011, Martin Shaw and Michael Hill-Smith (Shaw & Smith) were on a look-and-see jaunt in Tasmania when they became smitten by Tolpuddle's Coal Valley location and mature vines, planted only to pinot noir and chardonnay. In only four vintages Tolpuddle has really established itself as one of the country's top pinots.

Vintage 2015 Tolpuddle Pinot: HALLIDAY 97 points, Top 100 Wines 2016. '...up there with the best from a great Tasmanian vintage, sharing the alluring, perfumed fruits and the integrity of high quality tannins providing the structure for a long future...'

Michele's notes: The wine rushes out at you from a quick swirl in a large glass. Wow! Brambly, peppery, perfumed with flowers and a little smoky/resiny stem action; just the right amount. The joy continues; in the mouth it's silky and sensual with softly persistent yet juicy flavours. There's a cleansing, ever-so-slightly chalky finish.

George Loveless would have found it ironic that as a transported convict he ended up on the site of a modern day utopia of agriculture production. Loveless was the leader of the 'Tolpuddle Martrys', who were transported to Tasmania for founding the rather benign sounding Friendly Society of Agricultural Labourers, and served part of his sentence working on a property near Richmond in Tasmania's south east. Part of that property is now Tolpuddle Vineyard.

Pinot Shop is located in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia at 135 Paterson Street down at the river end near Cataract Gorge, Stillwater Restaurant and The Mill Providore. We specialise in the best of premium pinot noir as grown so beautifully in the cool climes of Tasmania, New Zealand and southern parts of the big Australian continent. Our love for pinot extends to its sibling styles pinot gris and grigio and fizzy cousins sparkling wine and Champagne, even when they don’t contain pinot noir. That’s not to say we’ve become too exclusive - we also stock an interesting range of delicious wines for those (rare) times when you’re not drinking pinot…
