Top End Tassie Pinots Six Pack

These Tasmanian pinots were standouts at a recent Pinot Shop tasting in Perth. Two of each in this mixed six pack with free freight.

2013 Apsley Gorge Pinot Noir (East Coast): Always characterful, Apsley Gorge's particular trademark is the richly luscious and structured palate. At the tasting last week, the bouquet was strikingly aromatic (even pretty) with red rose florals, slightly smoky szechuan pepper plus the typical Apsley blood and stone. Sweet red cherry fruit and a little darker plum sweep across the palate; the tannins are ultra fine and slightly chalky, and the flavours go on and on. This is a tremendous release from Apsley Gorge, harks back to the great 2007.

2015 Dom Simha Rama Pinot (Derwent): Stunningly weighted pinot with a finely-grained texture, lovely glycerol flow across the palate and extraordinary length. Nav Singh is an ardent non-interventionist, preferring to put the hard yards into overseeing how the grapes are grown, revealing the nuances and idiosyncrasies of each season and plots of land as they are. Sweet, dark cherries, resin, and smoky stems. Drinking very nicely now with lots of air in a big glass, but will be good until 2022.

2014 Dawson & James Pinot Noir (Derwent): NEW RELEASE GOLD MEDAL 2016 Royal Melbourne Wine Show; DOUBLE GOLD 2016 Six Nations Wine Challenge (top-pointed Australian Pinot); 97 points Campbell Mattinson. Made by mates Peter Dawson and Tim James (who used to work together at Hardy's) from the mature vines of Gerald Ellis Meadowbank Vineyard in the Upper Derwent at Glenora. This is a powerful but seductive pinot. It satisfies on so many levels, smokiness mingles with plum and candied orange. Very full in the mouth with excellent fruit tannin backbone.

Pinot Shop is located in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia at 135 Paterson Street down at the river end near Cataract Gorge, Stillwater Restaurant and The Mill Providore. We specialise in the best of premium pinot noir as grown so beautifully in the cool climes of Tasmania, New Zealand and southern parts of the big Australian continent. Our love for pinot extends to its sibling styles pinot gris and grigio and fizzy cousins sparkling wine and Champagne, even when they don’t contain pinot noir. That’s not to say we’ve become too exclusive - we also stock an interesting range of delicious wines for those (rare) times when you’re not drinking pinot…
