Valli 2014 Pinot Noirs
Winery : Valli
Grant Taylor the winemaker aims to be invisible. A tall order one could say, given his big personality, bags of enthusiasm and pioneering pinot work in Otago. What he seeks is not to be noticed in a winemaking sense, letting each individual site that makes up the Valli Pinot Noir quartet, speak with clarity and uniqueness.
2014 Valli Bannockburn Pinot Noir (Central Otago): Richness and balance are always the hallmarks of Bannockburn. Briar fruits in abundance in this vintage, smooth and delicious.
2014 Valli Bendigo Vineyard PInot Noir (Central Otago): This comes from Chinaman's Terrace high up in Bendigo. Rich, ripe, gutsy pinot. Camphor and spice on the nose with dark currants and thyme. Persistent flavours in the dark berry spectrum. 'This is a wine of not only power but also harmony.' Grant Taylor
2014 Valli Gibbston Pinot Noir (Central Otago): Gibbston, a cool sub-region of Central Otago. Wet stone, meaty notes, blood and plum on the nose. Juicy and fleshy in the mouth but finely firm too. Savouriness is a feature of the Gibbston region.
2014 Valli Waitaki Pinot Noir (North Otago): Very low yield, very slow growing vines on this site. Vivacious pinot - red fruits, candied orange rind, gently sweet and persistent flavours. 'This is a classic Waitaki Pinot: bright, alive, with very fine tannins and incredible length of flavour.' Grant Taylor
