In 2013, old pals Grant Taylor (Valli), Claire Mulholland and Ted Lemon (Burn Cottage) and newer pal Marquis Sauvage (Burn Cottage owner) hatched a plan, mulled over it for several months and then decided to swap parcels of pinot fruit in vintage 2014.

        2014 Burn Cottage Valli Gibbston Vineyard Pinot Noir: Ted Lemon - 'One of our dear friends in Central Otago is Grant Taylor, the former winemaker of Gibbston Valley Vineyards and proprietor of Valli Vineyards, one of the great producers of Central Otago. Grant is an iconic figure in Central, equally beloved for his wonderful wines and his quick wit. We share stories and visit each other’s vineyard and cellars as often as we can. Over the course of several months in 2013 we decided that it would be great fun to swap grapes from each other’s estate vineyard and make the wines, with each of us vineyard designating the result. In our view, there is no finer vineyard in the Gibbston region than Grant’s. The professionalism, care and love which go into the management of this site are exemplary. The resulting wine has a lovely confectionary note to the aromas along with bright black cherry, rhubarb, spice, and plum tones. There is great intensity and concentration on the mid palate, with wonderful richness and very supple tannins. An elegant wine, with a very long and harmonious finish. This bottling shows extremely well in its youth and will age well for several years.'

        2014 Valli Burn Cottage (Lowburn) Pinot Noir: Cameron Douglas MS Wine & Beverage Reviews 'Smoky, toasty, organic and new with aromas of ripe dark cherry fruits laced with dried raspberry and plum, dried flowers and dried herb, smoky oak and baking spice layers - quite complex. On the palate - delicious, fresh, pure with wild or natural ferment layers, spice, ripe red fruit flavours and a haunting energy. Firm youthful tannins with a chalk texture, medium acidity and lengthy pure finish.'
