Weingut Bernhard Huber Pinot Noirs

$49.50 - $389.00

Germany is lauded as the 'new' great area for pinot noir. The development of vine culture and the resultant quality of wines has been on a spectacular trajectory for the last decade and a half. Germany now ranks third in the world after France and USA for area planted to pinot noir, or spätburgunder,as it is mostly known. New plantings have mostly concentrated around Baden and the Pfalz.

Top producer Bernhard Huber is located in Baden-Württemberg - the winery is in Malterdingen in the deep south-west of this region, located on the foothills of the Black Forest mountains between Strasbourg in the French Alsace Region and the city Basel in Switzerland. 'On approx 25ha we cultivate round about 65% Pinot Noir. For over 700 years Pinot Noir is cultivated in our village first documented in 1285. Cistercian monks brought the Pinot Noir tradition from Burgundy into our region…!'

Patrick Walsh, Cellarhand (importer): 'This estate truly was THE great discovery of our European trip in 2011. Awesome Pinot Noirs by any measure. (The late)* Bernard Huber is given the top rating of five stars in the Gault Millau Wine Guide (the Gambero Rosso of Germany) and several of his Pinot Noir are regularly among the finest produced in Germany in any given year. His 2008 was again Pinot Noir of the Year in Gault Millau 2011.  We’re excited to have secured a small parcel of Huber wines.' *Click on the link for an excellent article about Weingut Bernhard Huber by Ed Merrison of CellarHand.

We specialise in the best of premium pinot noir as grown so beautifully in the cool climes of Tasmania, New Zealand and southern parts of the big Australian continent. Our love for pinot extends to its sibling styles pinot gris and grigio and fizzy cousins sparkling wine and Champagne, even when they don’t contain pinot noir. That’s not to say we’ve become too exclusive - we also stock an interesting range of delicious wines for those (rare) times when you’re not drinking pinot…
