Merriworth Pinot Noir Sans Souci 2025

Merriworth is at Tea Tree on the western edge of Tasmania’s Coal River Valley. The 1.5Ha 'Home Block' vineyard was established in 2001 on an east-north-east block. Owner Mark McNamara is the viticulturist and winemaker.

'Sans Souci' is a part of a trio of wines from the Merriworth Pinot range. As its name suggests, it is made as a fresh and juicy, indeed carefree, style with 50% whole bunch and minimal oak influence.

Some nice spicy char with smacks of salty beef broth, fennel seed/licorice strap and some gunpowder. There is a vibrancy is the air, cranberries, Vietnamese mint and caper berries

Again, with the vibrant pulse on the palate, some morello cherries, Asian spice and szechuan pepper. Very moreish and savoury, acids are bright with subtle fine tannins. There is a feeling of ‘arrival’ with this wine, everything is in place, as is it name ‘Sans Souci’ suggests ‘without a care’. Delicious.
