Gladstone 2010 Pinot Noir
Winery : Gladstone Vineyard
Gourmet Traveller WINE Feb 2013 features a much awaited head to head tasting of Australian and New Zealand Pinots. The panel of Nick Bulleid (whose comments appear below), Peter Forrestal, Peter Bourne, Huon Hooke & Nick Hildebrandt chose 43 'top drops' from more than 70 wines. The wines were tasted in brackets of 10, with the NZers and Aussies randomised among each, and masked.
Gladstone 2010 Pinot Noir from Martinborough/Wairarapa took top honours with Five Stars and 96 points.'Shows that subtlety and intensity can go hand-in-hand. Fragrant red cherry and strawberry flavours sit effortlessly in a taut structure. Bourne loved it. "A first sniff of smoked spices, truffle and leather over sweet red fruits," he said. "Juicy raspberry and cranberry flavours. Good balance with finesse, detail and good length." The wine shows beautifully how top pinot is a wine of both perfume and structure.'
