Heemskerk Wines
Winery : Heemskerk
Founded by Graham Wiltshire in 1975, taken over by Roederer, bought by Josef Chromy, sold to Pipers Brook Vineyard and then to Cellarmasters, redeveloped by Fosters, now known as Treasury Wine Estates.
So goes the short, but rather busy history of a Tasmanian icon wine label. While the fruit is proudly Tasmanian it is now sourced from the best vineyard sites for each varietal (from all over the state) rather than from the original Pipers Brook located Heemskerk vineyard, ownership of which is now split between Jansz and Pipers Brook.
- 2014 Heemskerk Riesling SPECIAL $43, THREE $120 (RRP $50) TROPHY Best 2014 Vintage Wine at 2015 Tasmanian Wine Show. Minerally and vibrant riesling with pure and intense fruit, notably lemon and lime citrus. Dry. A superb riesling for keeping at least 10 years.
- 2014 Heemskerk Chardonnay SPECIAL $46 (RRP $56): Coal Valley fruit (Tolpuddle Vineyard) from 20+ year old vines. Pristine and fragrant Tasmanian chardonnay fruit with heady and exotic aromas from outstanding French oak - hints of marzipan. Extended lees contact with regular stirring gives extra palate weight - there's a wonderful honeyed creaminess on the dry/rich finish with exquisite peach and nectarine flavours to balance. Very complex.
- 2011 Heemskerk Pinot Noir SPECIAL $52 (RRP $65): Sourced from 19+ year old vines from Derwent Valley Lowestoft Vineyard and mature vine Coal River vineyards.
