Island Belle Pinot Noir 2024
Winery : Dawson & James
Opening notes of damson plum and kola nut, leading to hints of nutmeg, roasted baby beets and French tarragon. There are aspects of petrichor and a redcurrant/cranberry lift.
Good textual volume in the mouth with bright acids that interplay well with the fine tannins. Again, damson plum, macerated blackberries and quince. I like the chewy savoury meatiness, bresaola, that gives some verve and vibrancy to this wine.
There is excellent structure and composition in this wine, which will reward cellaring and decanting with a meal. I imagine some saffron BBQ quail or bone marrow with crostini (my past weekend treat)
There is clear evidence of the Dawson & James hands at play with both the fruit selection and winemaking technique which is both reassuring and encouraging. I can see why the judges awarded the trophy for BEST Pinot Noir!
