NZ Great Value Pinot DOZ
Winery : Various
Three top producers from Martinborough and Central Otago with their great value best.
Mixed dozen contains -
4 x 2018 Crimson by Ata Rangi Pinot Noir: Looking more and more like a junior Ata Rangi as those 'young' vines grow up to more than 20 years old and each new vintage is released.
'It's succulent, briary and charry with chewiness from excellent skin tannins and just enough (old) oak... a bit of grunt in there,' says winemaker Clive Paton.
4 x 2018 Rabbit Ranch Pinot Noir: Made by Chard Farm, one of Central Otago's oldest producers. Michele's notes: This is such a fantastic wine in every vintage. Ruby/magenta in hue and aromas of morello cherry, gentle spices, and a little wet stone to keep it all fresh. The cherry theme continues in the mouth, sweet and sour with notes of wild thyme. Juiciness to the fore in this vintage - there is a terrific balance between fruit and savouriness. Pinot noir of this medium weight and texture is excellent with spicy dishes, even robust fish stews built on tomato and paprika.
4 x 2017 Terra Sancta Estate Pinot Noir: Terra Sancta is one of the oldest established vineyards in the Bannockburn sub-region. The 'Estate' Pinot in the Terra Sancta range is drawn from all of the estate vineyards on Felton Road, including the famed Jackson's and Slapjack blocks. Deep in colour, richly charry, meaty, chocolatey with fab dark cherry. Ultra slippery and smooth in the mouth; the wine's inherent fruitiness and foil to the mocha and licorice elements. Balance and depth. Cracker wine.
