Te Hera 2008 Pinot Noir
Winery : Te Hera Estate
Martinborough, New Zealand
Te Hera Pinots were among the most impressive tasted at Pinot Noir NZ 2010. They had some pretty stiff competition from the 100 featured wineries but the tremendous focus of these wines demanded attention.
Winemaker/owner John Douglas was one of the first to establish a commercial vineyard on the now acclaimed Te Muna Road.
Vintages 2007 and 2008 both produced concentrated, ripely fruited wines.
Te Hera 2008 Pinot shows florals (notably violets) on the nose, blackberry and plum fruits in the mouth with a typically Martinborough syrupy/savoury texture. The oak, 30% of which is new, is perfectly integrated with the rich and soft fruit. Hard to resist once you have opened the bottled so entrancing are the aromas and delicious flavours.
